A Blast from the Past
The first picture is of our previous secretary Mrs Cecil Pittick being presented with flowers for her invaluable service to our club. The picture was taken at a dinner held on 28th March 1998 at the Whitmore Arms in Orsett. Cecil was a member of our club for 50 years, who stood down from office April 1997.

The second picture is of Beryl (ex -Secretary) and Godfrey Holden (Ex-Captain) who were elected to take over the reigns during the AGM of 1997. It was due to Beryl and Godfrey that we were able to upgrade our three 60 year old shale courts to the current tarmacadam. The club was awarded a National Lottery grant of around £40K and the re-surfacing was completed by June 1998.

Here's a few snippets from the local Gazette. See if you can spot our coach Gavin there (2nd picture).

In 2003 the new clubhouse was completed. The project to replace our clubhouse was funded by the 'Cleanaway Mardkye Trust'. You can see below cheque presentation to our club from Mr Brian Herbert of the Cory Environmental Trust. Our previous secretary Jenny Hurley (Pictured below) took the lead role in securing the funding for this venture.

Here's a few of our ladies who participated in the Essex Intermediate Cup final in 1966 which was held at Brentwood Hard Tennis Club. Don't they look great in their whites!

Many of you will know Alex Strachen pictured below (2nd from the left).

Thurrock Lawn Tennis club moved to the current premises in 1950's. The club owns court 3 and the clubhouse premises. Court 1 & 2 are have been provided on a 'peppercorn' lease basis by 'Billings Group' who were a major development company in Thurrock area.
